Diamonds in the Rough Cowl

It’s been a hot minute since I updated anything on here and as part as a 2019 resolution I want to get better about blogging and sharing my experiences making beyond one Instagram photo.

Last year I published the Diamonds in the Rough Cowl. This cowl was inspired by a stunning sweater created by Nicole Leybourne @theknitter and Wool and the Gang. When I saw the honeycomb cable sleeves I was floored and fell so dang hard in love with it. However this beauty is KNIT! I was like dang girl I need a crochet version of that.

So instead of learning to knit just yet, I cast aside all other wips and started creating a crochet version that night. After I had swatched it and figured it out I put an Instagram poll up and asked you what you wanted to see with it! The resounding answer was a cowl so I got to work.

As with any design, this one had a few bumps in the road. The first time I finished it I was pumped! I put it on right away and my boyfriend goes, “Why are there holes in it?”

Well he was right, who wants to wear a cowl that has gaping holes where the cables are?! So back to the drawing board I went to fill those holes in. A little while and a bit more yarn later, I had it!

This cowl, is big and definitely has some drama to it! It has become my go to cowl this winter so far since it’s easy to throw on and you’re looking stylish.

This pattern can be picked up in both my Ravelry and Etsy shop! It is an 9 page pattern detailing how to fill in those holes on the cabling, and provides instructions on how to adjust the pattern so you can use any size yarn or hook you have lying around!

If you make the Diamonds in the Rough Cowl please share with me on Instagram or through email! It really makes my day seeing others creating my patterns!

Happy hooking friends 🙂
